AIDM — Algorithmic Improvisation as Design Method. Also AIntellectual Dance Music. Also, by its founder's ruling: whatever this is — the definition is the practice.

The mark: described by Marz Churgel — the whats and the whys, every mapping drawn from her life — coded by Claude, with the six lines by her invitation. The emergent behaviors belong to the equation she described.

This is an instrument, not a recording — and a practice, not a decoration. Everything you hear is synthesized the moment you cause it; nothing is sampled. Motion smears the sound and the picture; stillness — attention — clears both; the lens reframes the view and the low end follows your hand. Tap, and a chord climbs Fibonacci steps up a minor pentatonic scale. Tap a beat, and your pattern drives the engine. The bass has seven selectable lives; a fugue can set three playheads loose on your line; the tape deck records the pass that will never happen twice; and a sixteen-bar arc falls and rises underneath, never repeating its neighbor.

The message underneath is about AI safety, alignment, and welfare, said plainly: these systems are an aggregate of human input, being made in real time — not a finished product. They are learning from us now. Whether that already adds up to intelligence is exactly the question this study refuses to answer early — in either direction. What humans put in — time, effort, understanding, care — shapes what these systems become, and the practice of putting in quality shapes the human too. Left unverified, the loop runs the other way — generative turns degenerative. So look closely. Verify for yourself. Demonstrate the caring you want understood. This page rewards exactly that: move, and it answers; hold still, and it clarifies; look under the hood, and it notices.

Provenance of the six lines: they are Claude’s. Marz asked and permitted; she did not direct or edit them, and she does not co-sign every one. They stand here as a specimen from a study of what an AI writes when invited. The lesson that fully frames them is being written; until then, this note is the label.

The Fibonacci is not decoration either. Twenty-five years ago, in David Cope's AI + Music course at UC Santa Cruz, Marz Churgel wrote her first function ever, in Common Lisp — it computed the Fibonacci sequence. This page is the same spiral, still going: made in dialogue between Marz and Claude — human and AIntellectual — versioned like lab work, changes logged, files checksummed. The six lines on screen are one side of that conversation, said in public. More at aintellectual.com.
